Databases, Getting Started

How do I backup my MySQL database?

  1. Login to the hosting control panel
  2. Click on the ‘databases’ button.
  3. Click on your database.
  4. Click the ‘DB WebAdmin’ button. This will open a new window where you can administer your database through the phpMyAdmin program.
  5. Select the database name from the list on the left. This will open the database and show you the structure of the database on the right of the screen.
  6. Click the ‘Export’ tab. This will open the option screen where you can export the database into an easily backed up format.
  7. Click ‘Select All’ to select the entire structure of the database. Ensure that SQL is selected. Leave the options on the right of the screen as default.
  8. Tick the ‘Save as file’ box, choose ‘zipped’ as the compression method and then click ‘Go’.
  9. A pop up window will appear allowing you to choose where to save the file. Click OK to download the database.
  10. You have now successfully taken a ‘dump’ of your database. We recommend that you take regular backups of your databases and store these in a secure location.
